Music
I have always wanted music to be an important part of our lives. I grew up playing piano with my dad as my teacher (I never had one piano recital) and played instruments through public school. I married into a family of musicians who grew up competing and performing seriously. I tried to find a happy middle ground. My goal has been for my kids to be good enough to do whatever they wanted to with music. I wanted to be serious, but not so much that it consumed our lives and created an identity crisis for my kids. I feel we have been successful so far.
I started both of my girls on violin when they were 4, my two middle boys on cello when they were closer to 5, my third son on piano at age 5, and my youngest on piano and violin on his fifth birthday.
The girls started piano when they were 7 and 8. They took for a few years.
I play the piano well enough to accompany my kids on their easy pieces. I attended lessons for each child during their first few years, and practiced with them daily until they were old enough to be independent.
