Book of Mormon
Over the years I have used a wide variety of resources to help and motivate my children to read the scriptures, particularly The Book of Mormon. My desire is to instill in them a love for the scriptures and to help them gain their own testimonies.
Reading with them gives lots of opportunity for gospel discussions. It is also a special bonding time.
I helped each of my children set a goal to read the entire Book of Mormon before their baptisms. In the beginning, their reading was slow, but they became progressively faster the more they read. Accomplishing this goal meant a lot! It meant a lot of time on their part and mine, but I think it is worth it! (The picture above is of Amy in Costco when she finished.)
Most of my kids used “Learning to Read Using the Book of Mormon” when they first started to read the real Book of Mormon. It breaks down the reading into small sections, has large text, and highlights certain words. There are comprehension exercises at the end of each section. A cheap copy of the Book of Mormon works just fine.
“The Book of Mormon for LDS Families” has larger text, pictures, definitions, and divides the chapters into sections. We have used this for our family scripture reading. (I love this edition!)
