Here is the angel appearing to Zacharias in the temple, Zacharias being struck dumb, and the angel Gabriel appearing to Mary. He has drawn a lot, and knows some of the stories behind the pictures. My problem right now is that he wants so much to color, that he’s speeding through the scriptures without giving me time to tell the stories. My other problem is that Mark really wants to do the same thing, and I’m not prepared for him yet. I’m working on that.

I have been happy with this method for Tyler. He really loves his scriptures - enough that he shows them to visitors when they come by, flipping through the New Testament to show them his drawings, and noting a few of the stories. It’s awesome.

I have been wishing for mini size scriptures of all the standard works (not just the Book of Mormon), and was elated when the Church released these pocket-size scriptures!

For Christmas I bought Tyler a set and sewed a scripture bag for him. He loves it! I love it. I wish I could carry that around at church.

Step 2: Getting inside the scriptures.

Since the Primary is focusing on the New Testament this year, I found my copy of “Picture Scriptures” (Thanks, M’Jean), bought fine point no-bleed Sharpie markers, a box of new crayons, and also printed some free GAK stickers.

We tried it out first in an old Book of Mormon. I drew the pictures with the marker, and Tyler colored them in.

Once I was sure it wouldn’t bleed through the page, we started on the New Testament. I could not draw pictures fast enough! I’ve had to draw as many as I can stand to at night, to be prepared for his enthusiastic begging the next day. (Update a few weeks later: he still begs for me to draw more pictures so he can color them. It’s awesome.)
