Book of Mormon-Faith in God Tote
Many kids get scriptures for the 8th birthday or baptism, but not all. When I visit the 8-year olds to give them their Faith in God booklet, I ask them to keep it in their scripture bags. Since two of our Primary girls weren’t given scriptures, I wanted to give them a Book of Mormon and Faith in God booklet holder. So I made up this pattern. Here are my notes to help me remember how to make it in the future.

I first made a pattern out of paper. *I can’t find my notes for the measurements.
Fold up fabric to make a pocket on the outside of the holder. Insert Book of Mormon. Pin fabric along the edges of the book to make sure you have enough space for the book.
Pin handles through one layer of fabric.
I don’t have a picture of the second one I made, which has a deeper pocket. The Faith in God booklet can go either in the front or back pocket.
I plan to make one more holder before January (also for a girl), so I’ll try to remember to take pictures of the things I missed in this round.
I wrapped these up and gave them to the girls when I visited them for Faith in God, shortly after they turned 8. I encouraged them to read the Book of Mormon and find out if it is true. I hope they like them.

I put an Articles of Faith card in the front pocket, and a Book of Mormon reading chart in the inside back pocket (no picture).
You can also throw in a marking pencil, but I didn’t. Next time, I’ll sew in a pencil holder along the back edge.
Cut two pieces of fabric: ~19.75” long, ~16.25” wide
*remeasure for accuracy*
Cut two small pieces of fabric for handles ~10.5” long, 1.5” wide
Cut one piece of interfacing for large piece and one for each handle. Iron on.
Pin right sides of fabric together.Sew all the way around (.25” seam allowance), leaving an opening on one side. Trim corners, turn right side out, push out corners with scissors. Iron. Top stitch around entire piece of fabric.
Fold handle in half, right sides together. Stitch the open side closed (.25” seam allowance). Turn right side out and iron flat. Tuck in both ends of fabric. Stitch ends closed and all the way around the handle. Repeat with other handle.
With a pin, mark where the pocket folds up to.
Keeping the handles pinned through one layer, unfold the pocket and sew each handle on. (It will be a little awkward.)
Re-pin the pockets down from your marked spot. Sew down the pockets and top stitch along the bottom edge.
Turn it over and fold the pockets in. Sew around the entire outside edge, with the handles in place, reinforcing the edges of the pockets.

Cut a ribbon long enough to extend through the Book of Mormon, with an extra inch on top and bottom. Fold under the bottom edge, and pin to the inside of the holder directly in the center. Stitch all the way around that rectangle. Apply fray block to the bottom of the ribbon.
I also forgot to take a picture of the Books of Mormon with bookmarks in them. It looked really cute. I used a gold, glittery one in this holder, and a pink in the other one.
