The kids have been quizzing and helping each other, which is super cool to watch.

Adam has been reading Book of Mormon Stories and using a packet from Discover the Scriptures which encourages scripture memorization from the “real” Book of Mormon. He is a champ at memorization. He has also learned how to find those scriptures in his Book of Mormon and mark them, which is pretty cool! The packet-related scriptures are the smaller cards in the above picture. Most of them are partial verses, which is perfect for his age. There are so many references for him to remember, but he amazes me with his memory!

I printed off a set of scripture memorization cards for each child: the Articles of Faith, a few scriptures I chose, as well as a card for the books in each book of scripture (Books in the Book of Mormon, Books in the New Testament, etc.) I color-coded the borders on one side so everyone can tell which cards are theirs.

I laminated them and put them on a ring like this.

I hope that this will facilitate frequent review as well as the addition of many more memorization verses in the future.

I added a second ring for the scriptures the kids don’t know yet or need to re-learn. The kids are motivated to move the scriptures onto the “I know these” ring. I keep them all in the jars (top picture) so they have a good home instead of being left all over the house.

For Easter, the boys each got a mini scripture case for their mini Book of Mormon. I added a little notebook for taking notes in church (which they use for picture-drawing). I later found a miniature New Testament for each boy, which they are super excited about. I made sure to label their bags with a tag in case they get lost at church (our phone # is on the back).

Last week I whipped up a good, old-fashioned Family Home Evening wheel chart for involving everyone in weekly FHE. It was a big hit! (I have a wooden chart, too, but never use it.) Natalie impressed us with a fabulous lesson (Jon and I kept giving each other the “surprised/impressed” look)! I printed a talk from General Conference on gaining testimonies with some highlighted sections from which she could teach, and she took it from there. She came up with her own examples and led a great Q&A session. Amy organized a fun activity where you pass around papers folded in threes, everyone drew one part of the body: head, body or legs, then passed it to the next person to draw another section.

This week went well also. I helped Amy write an outline for a lesson on prayer (she did a great job), Andrew helped me make Pineapple Upside-Down cake, and Adam was excited to have the prerogative to designate “Avatar” as the activity.

Shaking things up is always refreshing!

2014 update: *I am not able to send out the cards I made or copies of anything. I don’t have time to manage things like this anymore, but best of luck with the idea!*
